چکیده

The liquefaction phenomena of sands have been studied by many researchers to date. Laboratory element tests revealed key factors that govern phenomena, such as relative density, particle size distribution, and grain shape. However, challenges remain in quantifying inherent anisotropy evaluating its impact on phenomena. This contribution explores the effect mechanical response granular materials using discrete method. Samples composed spherical particles are prepared which approximately same void ratio mean coordination number (CN), but varying degrees terms contact normals. Their responses compared under drained undrained triaxial monotonic loading well cyclic loading. simulation results reveal instability followed can be observed for loose samples having a large degree anisotropy. Since sample initial tends deform more weaker direction, leading lower resistance, an isotropic fabric potentially exhibits greatest resistance. Moreover, effective stress path during is found follow failure lines static From micromechanical perspective, recovery when threshold CN develops along with evolving induced Realising conventional index anisotropic (a) not drops almost zero liquefaction, this proposes alternative index, (a×CN), evolution tracked effectively, common upper bounds defined both tests.

Mechanical Simulation of Granular Materials by DEM Analysis

A study of four constitutive contact models employed in discrete element analysis is presented. Most discrete element simulations employ simple contact models due to computational time constraints. However, few works are available in literature which evaluates the suitability of these simple models to simulate DEM applications. The influence of more complex models on bulk behavior is examined t...

Incremental response of granular materials: DEM results

We systematically investigate the incremental response of various equilibrium states of dense 2D model granular materials, along the biaxial compression path (σ11 < σ22, σ12 = 0). Stress increments are applied in arbitrary directions in 3dimensional stress space (σ11,σ22,σ12). In states with stable contact networks we compute the stiffness matrix and the elastic moduli, and separate elastic and...

The Initial and Induced Fabric Anisotropy of Granular Materials

A granular material is most likely to possess an initial anisotropic structure due to the depositional process or the previous stress history. There is also induced fabric anisotropy during shearing. Concerning the significant influence of fabric anisotropy on the stress-strain behaviour of a granular material, in-depth investigation on the two kinds of fabric anisotropy is essential. Initial f...
